SALVATION

The Condition of Humanity

The Bible tells us that, on our own, we are all sinners and because of it, we are separated from God. Isaiah 59:2 says, "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear."

Isaiah 64:6 says, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

Romans 3:10 goes on to tells us that none of us are good. It says, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." Romans 3:12 says, "..there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

The Penalty

Because of this sin, we have all been already judged and found guilty for our rejection of God. John 3:18 says, "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The penalty for this judgment against us is a physical death. Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is death..."

But if we die without Christ, we will have a fate much worse than just a physical death. We will have eternal separation from God's love, which is an eternity in Hell. Revelation 20:15 says, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

God's Desire for All People

Though these things are true, this is not what God wants for anyone. 1 Timothy 2:4 says that God "will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." 2 Peter 3:9b also tells us that God is "...not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."

The truth is that God wants to be with you so much so that Jesus Christ has gone to prepare a special place for those who have trusted in Him. In John 14:2-3, Jesus says, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

How to Get Saved

So how do you ensure that you have an eternal home in Heaven? - Put your total faith in the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for your sins to be forgiven. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

How can you put your total faith in Christ? - For starters, you must acknowledge that you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

After acknowledging that you are a sinner, you must confess those sins to God and repent. 1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Romans 10:10 says, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Luke 13:5 says, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

You must also believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, & then rose again. Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Finally, through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come into your life to become your own personal Savior. Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Prayer

Understand that there are no magic words that save you. There is no secret prayer formula that results in your salvation. By praying "the sinner's prayer" you are coming to God for the first time and asking Him to forgive you for your sin, rebellion, and rejection of Him. This prayer is simply the very first step in an ongoing life of obedience and faith in Christ.

If you are not sure how to pray  for Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins, below is an example of something you might say.

"Dear God, I know that I am a sinner, and because of my sin, I am eternally separated from You. I no longer want to reject, or disregard You, so in the best way that I know how, I am asking You to forgive me for my sins, and I ask that You would cover me in the shed blood of Your only begotten Son, Jesus. I am now willing to turn from my sins and submit to Jesus Christ as my own personal savior. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."

Eternal Security

Jesus said in  John 17:12, "...those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost..."

In John 10:27-29, Jesus also said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.”

By accepting Christ as Savior, you have become one of God's "sheep," and as such you are now in His hand where you are not lost, and nothing can take you away from Him!
